Rethinking Dance in Nightlife

Wed 21 · 18:30 · DB55 · Amsterdam
Lately we've observed fewer dancers on the dancefloor, fewer dancers hired or planned as part of an event's programming, and audiences standing facing the DJ with their phones out. What happened to dancing all night long, connecting to the music and to each other? Have we lost the essence of clubbing? This indepth session is organized in the context of The Better Move , a project supported by VibeLab . Its goal is to increase the employment of dance professionals in the nighttime economy, and integrate more movement-based, health-enhancing, and culturally rooted experiences into club programming. This event is donation-based. Would you like to support our work? You can donate via the QR code on the day of the event. Program: 18:30 doors open 19:30 Part 1: How big is the disconnection between dancers and clubs? What we observe nowadays. Featuring Polli Panda (dancer, DJ), Diego Oliveira (dancer), and Sophie Koffeman (Doka). 20:30 Part 2: Best practices and learnings from people in the space, featuring Nick V. from La Mona (Paris) and Lottie Horton (Defected Records) 21:00 Dance activation by Diego Oliveira 21:30 - 23:00 Tunes by Polli Panda There will be opportunities to ask questions during the talk.

Elisa Zuppini - Disambiguation

Wed 21 · 19:00 · De Duif · Amsterdam
presented by WhyNot, Stadsherstel, and ADE Arts & Culture. 15 dancers explore the state of nightlife, post-clubbing. “Wonderful and devastating performance (…) Definitely the most impressive group work I saw in years.” Fransien van der Putt, dramaturg, theatre critic and author. Elisa Zuppini choreographs a system in which human perception converges with other-than-human agencies. Fifteen dancers form a pulsing structure, extending toward and withdrawing from the audience’s perceptual field. Like chthonic waves, they generate a hybrid circuit of sensation. Within the insomniac framework of post-clubbing, the dancers explore the effects and aftereffects of hedonistic nightlife. They perform through a dissociative state of depersonalization, allowing them to resource from something other than conditioned subjectivity. By inhabiting liminal and viscous spaces, the dancers explore multiple sensibilities, navigating the condition of metathreshold—a ceaseless transition in which boundaries dissolve, transformation occurs, and ambiguity itself sculpts tangible states. Accompanied by deconstructed melodies and industrial rhythms, a haunting gothic tendency emerges. Navigating a world erratically attempting to understand itself, Disambiguation reflects on collective agency and on how distributed cognition gives rise to a dramaturgy of affect. A second p erformance also takes place at 21:15 at De Duif Duration 50' Credits: Concept and choreography: Elisa Zuppini creation in collaboration with the performers Hannah Badura, Rowan van den Boomen, Tara Brügger, Lola Dupriez, Mandisa Gramelsberger, Katrina Gusca, Jieon Ko, Edward Lloyd, Maxine van Lishoet, Clémence Masakidi, Esteban Alejandro Obregon Moriano, Efua-Maria Raknerud Aikins, Jentel Schiettekatte, Envel Serazin, Ditte Toppet. Doka Culture x Live Coding Sessions

Wed 21 · 20:00 · Doka · Amsterdam
Live Coding Sessions and Doka Culture present an Algorave during Amsterdam Dance Event 2026. As the city welcomes the global electronic music community, we’re excited to celebrate the live coding scene alongside it. An Algorave (a combination of algorithm and rave) is a club night where music and visuals are created by writing code in real time. Rather than performing pre-recorded tracks, artists improvise throughout the night while their code is projected for the audience to follow, making the creative process part of the performance. We're thrilled to welcome a fantastic line-up of artists, with first-time Live Coding Sessions guests Hellocatfood, MYNA, Sol Sarratea, Deaxmachina and Den Ree, alongside returning favourites Jobi, Joyce den Hertog and Lil Bleep. We'll introduce each of them over the coming weeks. Live Coding Sessions is initiated and organised by Saskia Freeke, Klasien van de Zandschulp and Sabrina Verhage. This event is a collaboration between Doka Culture and Live Coding Sessions. Live Coding Sessions is kindly supported by Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK)

Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest x EINDER by Boris Acket

Wed 21 · 20:30 · Centrale Markthal · Amsterdam
One monumental art installation. Two weeks on view. Four extraordinary concerts. Celebrate ADE’s 30th anniversary with EINDER by Boris Acket . On 21 October , monumental music, art and architecture come together to celebrate 30 years of ADE. The Concertgebouworkest will perform Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony with 70 musicians inside Amsterdam’s monumental Centrale Markthal. Enjoy this true classic from 1808 conducted by Riccardo Minasi , beneath the largest-ever version of Boris Acket’s EINDER. The rhythmic motif of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is repeated constantly, taking on ever-changing forms, and in this way Beethoven builds his symphony layer by layer. While EINDER will shift and reshape above the orchestra creating a dance that is never the same twice. Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony was revolutionary 200 years ago, and it still is today. This energetic music never ceases to surprise. About EINDER EINDER is an artificial sky in constant motion. A vast expanse of ultralight fabric floating above the space, animated by hundreds of electronically controlled fans. The system is precisely programmed, yet what happens overhead can never be entirely controlled. Air currents collide, gravity pulls and turbulence interrupts, turning every movement into something new. At times, EINDER resembles a rolling sea. At others, a passing cloud or the beginnings of a storm. It moves somewhere between choreography and weather. Always changing. Never performing the same way twice. This is a production by artist Boris Acket and Making Waves. Acket has previously collaborated with institutions and artists including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Van Gogh Museum, Lowlands and Fred again. The production is realised by Goonie Crew. EINDER brings together movement, space, sound, material and light in an installation that invites people not only to observe, but to experience. Note: To celebrate the opening night of Einder, we're extending the concert programme. Artist Boris Acket will open the concert with a personal introduction, and you will experience a unique glimpse into Einder, composed especially for this evening. With these additions, the performance will run for approximately 55 minutes and offer something you won't hear anywhere else. As a result, it is no longer possible for us to host two concerts on the same evening. Instead, we'll present one unique concert, taking place from 20:30 - 21:25 on Wednesday, 21 October. If you already purchased tickets for the initial time slots, your tickets will remain valid, and the updated time will also be reflected on your ticket. Get your tickets now!
