Space Afrika – Expanded Set
Expanded Space Afrika set with strings and vocals
Based in Manchester, United Kingdom
Expect widescreen electronics, dissolved rhythm and a live arrangement that brings in drums, guitar, strings and soprano voice. The programme says the set is built around Quiet Storm, so this should lean more suspended and detailed than club-forward, with the duo’s usual smeared bass and fractured harmony widened by the extra players.
More about Space Afrika – Expanded Set
Space Afrika are Joshua Tarelle Reid and Joshua Inyang, a Manchester duo now split between Manchester and Berlin. Their work has moved from the northern weather-system feel of Honest Labour toward the class-and-diaspora focus of Quiet Storm, and Unsound is presenting it as a collaborative live version with Polish vocalist Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska and other players.
