Rogiński trio reworking Tomasz Stańko’s free jazz language
Rogiński’s playing is rooted in deep, patient guitar lines, with Marina Džukljev and Marek Pospieszalski adding piano and saxophone pressure around him. The trio format points to spacious improvisation, with Stańko’s harmonies and free-jazz edge as the score rather than a fixed repertoire reading.
Raphael Rogiński is a guitarist, composer and researcher of musical folklore, and this project extends his existing “plays” concept after work on John Coltrane and Langston Hughes. Here he turns to Tomasz Stańko, one of Polish jazz’s central figures, with two players who can meet him in a very open, abstract setting.
