Solo saxophone set from Oslo’s Bendik Giske
A single saxophone line stretched into long, circular phrases, breath clicks, overtones, and bodily noise. On record he folds in techno pulse and avant-jazz discipline, but this live opening set is likely to be the instrument exposed at full length.
Giske has put three albums out on Smalltown Supersound and has worked with Beatrice Dillon, Aya, Wacław Zimpel, Hanne Lippard, Total Freedom, Lotic, Rezzett, and Deathprod. Smalltown’s 2018 note on his debut also says he drew on Lindstrøm’s arpeggios and Evan Parker, which still fits the arc of his work.
