Highland Park songwriter with lo-fi guitars, soft synths and hushed vocals
Based in Los Angeles, United States
Distant Lands uses distorted guitars, cheap synths soaked in reverb, lo-fi drum machines and Zahara Jaime’s hushed, sometimes layered vocals. The songs move between driving indie rhythms, slowcore restraint and gauzy shoegaze, giving this concert a warmer, quieter centre than Spiral Your Way Out.
Zzzahara is Zahara Jaime, a Mexican-Filipino songwriter raised in Highland Park who played guitar with Eyedress and U.S. Velvet and formed The Simps with Eyedress. Their solo catalogue for Lex Records links bedroom production to the changing streets, queer life and family history of their native Los Angeles.
After David Lynch’s death, they started taking magnesium to dream again; one resulting dream became the basis of Distant Lands.
