McCamman began Victoryland while still playing in Philadelphia punk band Blood, then moved to New York and developed it with producer Dan Howard. The 2026 Good English album My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It sharpened the project's lo-fi beginnings into accessible experimental pop-rock; Dead Oceans signed the act in September 2026.
