Burlington quartet turning post-punk repetition into tense, motorik release
Based in Burlington, United States
Robber Robber lock wiry guitars, clipped bass and motorik percussion into repetitive patterns, then interrupt them with noise, slacker-rock melody or sudden pressure releases. Nina Cates' cool, plainspoken delivery steadies the churn; newer material adds maximalist electronic force without losing the quartet's live-room friction.
Nina Cates and Zack James first played together as teenagers in Brattleboro band The Snaz before forming Robber Robber in Burlington with Will Krulak and Carney Hamler. Wild Guess grew from Vermont's folk-heavy DIY circuit, while 2026's Two Wheels Move the Soul moved them to Fire Talk and widened the palette toward scorched post-punk and 1990s electronica.
When Nina Cates first met Zack James at an open mic, she later auditioned for his band—and he had completely forgotten meeting her.
