Hyperdub grime mutations with folk melody, strings and hyperactive percussion
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland · From Scotland
Proc Fiskal works around grime’s clipped pulse, splintered jungle drums, square-wave bass and rapidly rearranged vocal fragments. Recent EP Exchequer makes more room for bright melody, synthetic classical strings, harp and pop-shaped hooks, so the DJ set can turn from detailed headphone material to hectic 160-BPM pressure.
Joe Powers grew up in Edinburgh’s Pilton area and entered Scotland’s grime network through Glasgow’s LVLS Radio before Kode9 signed him to Hyperdub. His Shleekit Doss club night—and later label—gave that local strand of grime, jungle and genre-defiant club music its own base.
His Shleekit Doss night ended after bouncers and punters fought, the club was damaged and he was banned too.
