Newcastle duo folding lo-fi indie folk into ambient electronics
Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Slow-to-midtempo songs pair acoustic and electric guitar with sparse drum programming, synth haze and softly layered vocals. Live, the duo's bedroom-scale writing expands through guitars, synths and a fuller band, letting intimate passages break into digital distortion and heavier peaks.
Billy Woodhouse began lots of hands as a solo ambient DIY-rock outlet before meeting Elliot Dryden on a music course in Newcastle; they later exchanged demos remotely for the project's early records. After three self-released albums and cassette editions through small DIY labels, they joined Fire Talk, whose Angel Tapes imprint reissued the back catalogue before the duo made 2025's fully collaborative into a pretty room.
They chipped away at into a pretty room in Woodhouse's bedroom studio between pints of beer and rounds of Fortnite.
