Copenhagen post-punk quintet turning collapse into fast, romantic guitar music
Based in Copenhagen, Denmark
Fast, compact songs drive detuned guitars, forceful drums and melodic bass beneath Elias Rønnenfelt’s ragged baritone. Expect the brighter, urgent attack of For Love of Grace & the Hereafter alongside the band’s harsher early material and more expansive, organ-and-viola-colored songs.
Iceage formed as Copenhagen teenagers in 2008, issuing their first 7-inch and New Brigade through the city’s Escho imprint. Their Matador years stretched that punk foundation toward country, jazz and orchestral textures; the sixth album moves them to Mexican Summer while retaining producer Nis Bysted.
While recording “The Weak,” Elias Rønnenfelt put a flute and whistle found at Silence Studio in his mouth together and recorded the result.
