Shoegaze-weight guitars rebuilt with sharp pop hooks and digital unease
From USA
DIIV layer chiming and heavily distorted guitars over locked bass figures, forceful live drums and Zachary Cole Smith's cool, submerged vocals. Coming three days after ZIRP!'s release, this set should foreground its brighter A. G. Cook-shaped hooks while retaining the dense physical weight of Deceiver and Frog in Boiling Water.
Formed in Brooklyn in 2011, DIIV grew from Smith's solo recording project into a stable four-piece with Andrew Bailey, Colin Caulfield and Ben Newman. Their catalogue tracks a move from Captured Tracks dream-pop into heavier collaborative records; ZIRP! brings PC Music founder A. G. Cook into that established band chemistry.
