Spanish art pop splicing ballads, trip-hop and fractured electronics
Based in Madrid, Spain · From Spain
AMORE sings supple Spanish-language melodies over arrangements that can turn from sparse piano or acoustic balladry to dream-pop shimmer, trip-hop drag and glitchy rap-informed beats. The songs are compact and deliberately varied, so the live set should move quickly between intimate vocals and sharper electronic rhythm.
María Moreno Martínez comes from Patiño in Murcia and developed AMORE after moving to Madrid, where she entered the orbit around Ralphie Choo, mori, Nusar3000 and the wider experimental-pop scene. Top Hits, Ballads, etc... positioned her between Spanish songwriting tradition and the production language of Madrid's new pop underground.
At nursery-school nap time, two-year-old AMORE lay awake humming a Spanish song while the other children cried or slept.
