Polyrhythmic Ecuadorian electronics shifting from ritual downtempo to electro
Based in Quito, Ecuador · From France
Cruz builds around interlocking hand percussion, swung machine rhythms, deep analog synthesis, chants and field-recorded detail. Recent EP Telemagenta pushes toward murky electro and muscular techno, so expect a more club-facing live set without losing the spacious, polyrhythmic construction of Kinesia.
Raised in Quito, Cruz emerged from the city’s developing electronic circuit before connecting with Buenos Aires label ZZK Records and naming his early folk-electronic approach “Andes Step.” Later records for Multi Culti, Rhythm Section, Nous’klaer Audio and Kalahari Oyster Cult have broadened that vocabulary into breaks, electro and techno while keeping Ecuadorian rhythmic thinking central.
