German electronics duo spatialising dub, glitches and live improvisation
Based in Berlin, Germany · From Düsseldorf, Germany
Elastic breakbeats, dub-loaded low end and splintered melodies collide with digital grit, live guitar, percussion and unruly vocal fragments. This Apolo performance presents Spatial, No Problem. through the venue’s new d&b Soundscape system, placing Lee “Scratch” Perry’s voice, free improvisation, motorik rhythms and brass around the room.
Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma formed Mouse on Mars between Cologne and Düsseldorf in 1993, connecting Germany’s post-techno experimentation with indie, dub and pop circuitry. Their catalogue runs from Too Pure and their own Sonig label through Monkeytown and Thrill Jockey; the current project arrived on Domino after sessions with Lee “Scratch” Perry at their Berlin studio.
Lee “Scratch” Perry recorded Spatial, No Problem. with Mouse on Mars in three days at Berlin’s Paraverse Studio in 2019.
