Face-reading kinetic sculpture learning an abstract human-machine choreography
Based in Berlin, Germany · From Germany
A camera reads facial characteristics and expressions, while electric XYZ actuators translate the resulting data into precise abstract movement under LED light. The sculpture alternates between immediate responses and slower synthesis cycles, with a rear screen exposing its capture data and current processing state.
Andreas Lutz is a German artist and experimental musician whose installations connect machine perception, abstract language, sound and kinetic systems. He also founded the Berlin interdisciplinary studio and record label KASUGA; related works have appeared at ZKM, HeK Basel, Sónar+D, Semibreve and the Venice Biennale's Antarctic Pavilion.
