Riga vocal collage meets Tallinn hardware electronics in a new residency duo
Sign Libra’s lyricless, crystalline vocal lines move through layered synth melodies, acoustic touches and deep reverb; Nikolajev brings live-wired hardware rhythms, machine harmony, grainy drones and occasional vocal fragments. Baltic Rehearsals puts those chamber-like surfaces into a new collaborative work with ambient drift and an irregular club pulse.
Agata Melnikova’s Sign Libra emerged from Riga, moving from the ballet score Closer to the Equator to albums for RVNG Intl.; Robert Nikolajev is a Tallinn producer, DJ and IDA Radio co-founder whose records span raw house, electro and dark ambient. Nikolajev also co-founded the clubs Lekker and Kauplus Aasia, making him part of the infrastructure behind Tallinn’s electronic underground. Their Baltic Rehearsals pairing connects Riga’s composerly electronic scene with Tallinn’s hardware-led club culture.
Sign Libra turned sketches intended for SoundCloud into Closer to the Equator after choreographer Milana Komarova asked her to score a one-act ballet at the Latvian National Opera.
