Piano-and-voice cycle built from a poetry book
Based in Brussels, Belgium
Bare piano, voice, and MIDI soundfonts make this feel like art song reduced to its frame. Expect long phrases, very little harmonic clutter, and a recital that sits between spoken inflection and sung line.
Radio Hito is the project of Italo-Vietnamese Brussels-based artist Nguyễn Zen Mỹ. The recent work turns Claude Royet-Journoud’s book-poem into a ten-part cycle, with the songs tested live across Europe and Central Asia before being recorded.
The new cycle was worked up through nearly 80 live performances before it was recorded.
