Archival DJ set from Palestinian recordings
Based in London, UK · From Palestine
This set draws from restored cassettes, poetry, spoken word and other archive material, not a straight dancefloor dig. Expect old recordings with room noise, spoken passages, folk lines, jazz and funk cuts, and the sense of a historian sequencing a record box rather than a nightclub DJ.
Palestinian Sound Archive is an archival record label and research platform built around reissuing and documenting Palestinian music history. Mo’min Swaitat fronts the project, with NTS and SoundCloud mixes showing a focus on cassettes, field recordings, dabke, post-punk, synth and rock from Palestine and the wider region.
Swaitat found a tape cache in Jenin in 2020 at Tariq Cassettes, a shop he had known since childhood.
