Spoken lines over reggae riddims, with the cadence and punch of dub poetry rather than singing. The set leans on voice, timing, and political frame more than instrumental density, so expect something closer to a live poem session than a concert band show.
Born Allan Hope in Rae Town, Kingston, Mutabaruka came up as a Jamaican Rastafari dub poet and later hosted radio programmes including The Cutting Edge and Steppin' Razor. His 1983 album Check It! landed on Alligator Records and fixed his voice in the reggae/dub-poetry canon.
He trained in electronics before leaving the Jamaica Telephone Company.
