Tokyo noise-punk duo with hyper-fast riffs and electronics
Based in Tokyo, Japan
Guitar, samples, synths and drums get compressed into short, violent bursts. Ichiro Agata’s guitar is tangled up with turntables and samplers while Yasuko Onuki’s high, sharp voice cuts across the top; the result is clipped, frantic and oddly pop-minded even when it’s at its most brutal.
Melt-Banana come out of Tokyo’s noise-punk world and have spent years moving between hardcore, noise rock and electronic abrasion. The duo setup gives them a stripped, volatile live format that’s become a reference point for extreme underground guitar music.
