Ibex Band
Ethiopian groove band from the Golden Age era
Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia · From Ethiopia
JazzFunk & soulRock
Ibex Band’s music sits in rolling instrumental grooves, guitar lines, organ and saxophone over tight bass-and-drum interplay. The Le Guess Who? text points to Ethio-jazz, funk, soul and pentatonic melody, so this set should lean on long, dancing themes and instrumental momentum.
More about Ibex Band
The band were central to the Ethiopian Golden Age of Music and later became The Roha Band. Their 1970s work around Ras Hotel helped define the modern Ethiopian studio sound, and Muzikawi has reissued Stereo Instrumental Music, keeping the catalogue in circulation.
