Heith and tarawangsa duo, between inside and outside
Heith & Tarawangsawelas work in a low-data, long-distance zone: drifting electronics, tarawangsa strings, fragments of trance logic, and recordings that feel handled and re-handled. The music on Duori sits between acoustic resonance and unstable digital texture, with pieces that open out rather than lock into rhythm.
The collaboration began in Bandung in 2017 after the pair encountered Reak, a West Javanese trance form, and has kept evolving across distance and touring. Duori, released on STROOM, frames the project as material moved through portable recorders, dead hard drives, and expired SIM cards, which is a useful clue: this is electronic music shaped like travel, memory, and salvage rather than club utility. Tarawangsawelas anchors the project in Sundanese tradition through the tarawangsa, while Heith comes from the experimental electronics side.
They first sketched the collaboration after witnessing Reak, a West Javanese trance music style, in Bandung in 2017.
