H31R
maassai and JWords’ electronic hip-hop duo
Based in New Jersey, United States
H31R sit on the seam between clipped electronic production and rap cadence. JWords’ beats jump between gritty bass, juke and club acceleration, while maassai’s delivery stays nimble and text-focused, with room for jazz harmony and boom-bap weight to slip through.
More about H31R
The duo is maassai and New Jersey producer/composer JWords, and Bandcamp’s bio notes they met at The Glove in Bushwick before developing the project. Their headspace-era material landed on Big Dada, which places them in the New York experimental-rap and left-field club conversation rather than straight boom bap.
A story
They met at a show at the Bushwick arts venue The Glove before making H31R together.
