Grouper is Liz Harris, and the set usually sits in that smeared zone where guitar, voice, and room tone blur together. Expect near-whispered vocals, long decays, tape-worn textures, and songs that can tilt from intimate to cavernous without changing tempo much.
More about Grouper
Harris has released Grouper records on her own Bandcamp and through Kranky; the project sits near ambient, drone, and damaged folk rather than clean singer-songwriter terrain. The new 2026 Helen album credits the Pacific Northwest trio of Harris, Scott Simmons, and Jed Bindeman, but Grouper’s core identity is still her solo writing and production voice.
A story
Her 2026 Helen album appears as the first new full-length in over a decade by the Pacific Northwest trio with Scott Simmons and Jed Bindeman.
