Mapuche violin, txompe and territorial memory on the Other People stage
Based in Chomio, Chile · From Temuco, Chile
Wewentxu places violin and txompe—the Mapuche mouth harp—inside sparse compositions shaped by oral narrative, environmental recordings and improvisation. The set is likely to move between the intimate pieces of Narraciones de un retorno and the pastoral instrumental language of 2026's Después de llover.
A Mapuche artist from the Padre Las Casas–Temuco area of Gülumapu–Wallmapu, Wewentxu trained in classical violin before turning that instrument toward territorial memory and a critique of Western academic practice. Other People released Narraciones de un retorno in 2024; the later Stroom collaboration Después de llover pairs his violin and txompe with Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė's Lithuanian kanklės.
