Live computer music and sample collage
Based in Los Angeles, United States; Tokyo, Japan · From Los Angeles, United States
Stone’s sets are built from real-time sampling and dense electronic splices rather than beats. Expect rapid cut-up collage, unstable loops, and a lot of timbral blur: tiny fragments getting stretched, pitched, and stacked into long, absorbing masses.
Born in Los Angeles, he studied with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney at CalArts and has worked in electroacoustic music for decades. His name sits in the lineage of live computer performance and sample-based composition; the Bandcamp and RA bios both place him as one of the early figures who made the computer a performance instrument. He has used computers in live performance since 1986.
