Moodymann
Detroit house DJ with a soul-sample-heavy edge
Based in Detroit, United States
Low-slung house with chopped soul, jazz, and funk samples, plus rough-edged drums and bass that can sit slow or push into a harder swing. Expect a DJ set that moves between warm, vocal records and tougher Detroit pressure rather than a straight peak-time run.
More about Moodymann
Kenny Dixon Jr. is one of Detroit's core house figures, with KDJ Records running since 1994 and Mahogani Music since 2002. He sits in the 3 Chairs orbit with Theo Parrish, Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pittman, and his catalog has long been a reference point for Detroit's soulful side of house and techno.
