Songpot · Amsterdam Dance Event 2026

DJ scholar, author, and sound-system historian
Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands · From Los Angeles, United States
This is a multimedia lecture rather than a DJ set. Her ADE programme text points to voice-led scholarship on Black women in disco, hip-hop, house, and dancehall, with close listening, archival material, and narration doing the heavy lifting.
Lynnée Denise works between Amsterdam and Johannesburg, and her practice is explicitly built around what she calls DJ Scholarship and Sound System Geographies. She matters in the cultural-theory side of club music because she treats radio, records, dancefloors, and sound system culture as archives of Black diasporic knowledge.
She coined the term “DJ Scholarship” in 2013. In their own words
